Philadelphia native Nicolle Pasquel Blackmon is a multi-talented actor, model and singer/songwriter who will make her debut as a director and playwright with the staging of two scenes from her new work, “Dimensions of His Love”, at the Five Minute Follies on Friday, January 14th, 2011.
The themes addressed in Nicolle’s writing reflect her lifelong commitment to community and caring. From the age of 11, when she volunteered at a local nursing home, she has shown a keen interest in bettering the lives of those around her. From ages 12 through 14 she logged in over 400 hours of her summer vacations as a camp counselor at Miss Marty’s Pre-school and as a mentor at Germantown Settlement. She then spent the majority of her high school years volunteering with the Joseph Coleman Northwest Regional Library and becoming involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia.
Despite all this extracurricular activity, Nicolle still managed to find time to excel academically. While participating in the landscape nursery club at W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences she received an award for most outstanding student, which later earned her a place to compete at Penn State University, where she took home a second place award for the entire state of Pennsylvania. She received a prestigious full scholarship to attend the Pennsylvania Governors School of the Agricultural Sciences where she conducted research on the future of ecological landscapes.
After graduating W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences in 2001, Nicolle continued her studies at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown where she majored in Environmental Design. She began working for the Independence National Park Service while enrolled in college as a full time student. She participated in numerous volunteer projects with the park service and surrounding areas of Philadelphia, concentrating on planting/restoration. She credits this as one of her most meaningful experiences as a volunteer. Nicolle also became a member of her college’s Black Student Union, later renamed Students for Diversity, where she developed a more profound appreciation for other cultures. In 2008, she signed on as a volunteer for GLADD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
Her recent accomplishments as an actor include appearances in two Bollywood films, a web series called ‘Sketched Out’ starring American Idol’s Justin Guarini, BET’s ‘Who At The Door?’, and the stage plays ‘Insurance’, ‘Domestic Relations’, and ‘Nursing Home’, all written, directed and produced by Darvin Milligan. As a model, she has walked the runway and posed for print in both Philadelphia and New York.
